Ajinomoto expands production of amino acid-based surfactants

Japanese fine chemicals producer Ajinomoto plans to construct a new plant for its Amisoft line of amino acid-based liquid surfactants at its Pederneiras site in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The plant, which will be the group’s first for amino acid-based surfactants in Brazil, is scheduled to be operational in the fall of 2020.

OCI and ADNOC merge fertilizer operations

The joint venture between Dutch fertilizer and industrial chemical group OCI and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) will create the world’s largest export-focused nitrogen fertilizer platform as well as the biggest producer, with output of 5 million t/a of urea and 1.5 million t/a of ammonia, of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). OCI will own 58% and ADNOC 42% in the combined entity, which will be based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and have annual revenues of $1.74 billion, based on 2018 pro forma figures.

Orion to expand Gas Black production capacity at Cologne plant

Orion Engineered Carbons will expand its production capacity for gas blacks at its Kalscheuren (near Cologne) plant in Germany. The supplier of specialty and high-performance carbon black purchased the Kalscheuren plant, originally the headquarters of Evonik's industrial carbon black activities, in the fall of 2015.
