Altana Opens New Byk Site in Shanghai

Byk, an affiliate of German chemical company Altana and a provider of additives and measuring instruments, is expanding its operations in the Shanghai region to meet the anticipated growth in demand in the key Chinese market. In mid-April, the chemical company opened its new site in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP). The Asia region accounts for one third of sales and has made a substantial contribution to Byk’s business in past decades.
Catalent to Acquire Paragon Bioservices for $1.2 Billion

Oqema Acquires Elettrochimica Valle Staffora

On April 1, the Mönchengladbach, Germany-headquartered Oqema group acquired the Italian chemical distributor Elettrochimica Valle Staffora (EVS) based in the greater Milan area. EVS’ products and services ideally complement Oqema's portfolio in the business lines industrial, food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, water treatment, and rubber and resins. The current annual turnover of EVS is just under EUR 60 million.
Evonik Expands Production of Activated Metal Catalysts in India

Evonik’s business unit Catalyst has commissioned a new plant for the production of activated metal catalysts at its manufacturing site in Dombivli, India. Initially, the company plans to produce catalysts of its Kalcat brand, but in the long term also of the Metalyst brand. The production facility allows Evonik to fully utilize its capacities in Dombivli while establishing significant synergies with the activated metal catalyst production site in Germany.
Eastman Chemical Acquires Marlotherm Assets from Sasol

Eastman Chemical Company has acquired the German Marlotherm heat transfer fluids manufacturing assets and associated formulations, intellectual property and customer contracts from Sasol, a South Africa-based integrated energy and chemical company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Covestro, Genomatica Partner on Renewable Feedstocks

German materials manufacturer Covestro and US biotechnology company Genomatica have signed a long-term partnership to research and develop high-performance materials based on renewable feedstocks and reduce consumption of fossil-based resources.
Dow Completes Separation from DowDuPont

Dow completed its separation from DowDuPont, becoming a global materials science company active in the segments packaging, infrastructure and consumer care. After the spin-off, Dow said it will be even better positioned to increase sales and develop innovations for its customers. Ethylene, propylene and silicones will form the basis of its value chains.
